So I'm finally, finally online again, and one of the first posts I read is Molly writing that

she and her family have happily pulled the plug on their internet connection.

And I'm thinking - maybe she's got a point?

Off the grid

I'm still waiting for my new modem following the Friday the 13th Day of Electronic Disasters incident. When I came home from my vacation I tracked the location of my package with the provided reference number, only to find that it had been sent to a completely different city, where it had promptly been collected by some lucky person. I can only hope that it was a mixup of reference numbers and that there's a modem patiently waiting for me in my local post office. Well, a girl can dream, right? As I've run out of pre-scheduled material at this point, posting may be sketchy until I've sorted this thing out and I'm back on the grid. See you soon, hopefully.

I wish you love

I went with the romantic style on this one. White, green and pink - and I'm always worried about using too much pink. Hopefully this one is acceptable. The papers are by BG, the giant rub-on by K&Co. Love those rub-ons by the way, they are of such good quality! The roses are a birthday present, I can never get enough white flowers... These have been drenched in Glimmermist Frost for some shine and a little Stickles Star Dust for that extra sparkle. The letters are QK Eliza, of course... :)

New on my needles: black&blue

Tube socks in leftover wool yarn, first sock almost finished already. A little big and rough maybe, but they could be nice in large boots or wellies. And I have an idea for adjusting the pattern for the second sock. Details on my Ravelry page.

5/52: Friday the 13th

Friday the 13th hit me hard this year.

Without a working phone or modem I nearly resorted to smoke signals

to communicate with my friends in the outside world.

But at least I finally got a good reason to buy a new cell phone.

Surprise!

Wait, what's this? Could it be? Why yes, it is. More mini cards! ;) I've discovered that it's the perfect format to work with when having card making evenings with friends. They are so small that deciding on a layout is pretty easy, I just grab whatever pieces I have lying around and stick them on. Add an embellishment or two, and it's done. I'm a slow card maker, and if I'm supposed to talk with my friends at the same time, I can hardly ever finish a regular card in an evening. This way I can do both! :)

Home sweet paradise

Sometimes I think I have way, way too much in my card making stash. And then I have to make something spesific and cannot find anything that fits. The conclusion is: I need more stuff. Ooh, I think I like this logic! ;) The only moving house-related thing I could find this time was this rub-on, and the colours and style were decided by it. Papers and rub-on by K&Co.

The front of the card was a struggle. Too few flowers, too many. Too static a layout, too unbalanced. Would it be weird to say I prefer the inside? ;)

Even MORE mini cards!

This is the last batch of mini cards, I promise. For now, at least. I've become slightly addicted to these now... ;) It seems that the bright colours dominate my work these days... These cards really pop! But when they are as small as 10x10 cm, I like them like that. :)

4/52: Generation gap

But how can you make dinner without potatoes? she asked again.

I think that fact would still be the more puzzling one to her, even if I had admitted that

many of my dinners are also made without meat.

More mini cards

More mini cards! These are also 10x10 cm. I chose a flower for the center, found a design paper or two to match, and just cut into it without too much thought. As a result, they came together pretty quickly. Easy peasy. :)

Miniature cards

A few days ago I had a great card making evening with some friends! Card making can be a lonely hobby sometimes. I'm usually home alone at my desk and most of the social contact relating to it is done over the internet... That's why it's so wonderful to get together with other paper addicts and drool over each other's stash and techniques. ;) Never mind that it takes ages to pack my suitcase full of stuff and it can take weeks before I manage to unpack it - those evenings are real creativity kicks!

This time I made some mini cards, these are 10x10 cm. That narrows down the possibilities, but I liked the idea of having a simple design that fits any occation. A few of these in matching colours make a nice little gift. It's a great way to use scraps as well!

Hip hooray!

You may not see it, but I've stamped a "You are the best in the world!" stamp over and over on the dark peach/pink paper. The Core'dinations Whitewash cardstock has been embossed and sanded, and decorated with a huge rose and some buds (birthday present from Krissie, thanks!), some pearl swirl leftovers, and a laser cut butterfly.

I have to say I like the dimensional feel of this card! It remains to see if it will fit inside an envelope, haha... :)

In case an explanation is nescessary: A diptych consists of two photographs

of matching and/or contrasting subject/composition/meaning.

One of those "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts" kind of things.
