Welcome 2014!

A new year, a new book. A new day, a new page. Welcome 2014, and may you be a good one.
(The book above is a small compilation of my Instagram pictures from 2012, printed at Blurb. Highly recommended!)

I've been away for a while, as you may have noticed. Real life and all that. Priorities must be made, but I have found myself missing this space a bit lately. So while I cannot promise five posts a week, I can at least say that there will be some activity here now and then. How's that for commitment? :) :)

While I write some words about some of the stuff I've made that never made it to the blog in 2013, you can take a look at some Instagram pictures showing what I've done instead of blogging the last six months. There should really be a photo of my TV in there. Really, there should be.
Anyway, I'm off to watch the new episode of Sherlock. Again. :) Here's the slide show:

I've taken a few walks in the awesomeness of nature, not always on the safest paths...

...seen evidence that life may survive in rough places if it adapts to its surroundings...

...made my favourite summer desserts a few too many times...

...picked wild blueberries (the real thing!)...

...grown my own radishes, with somewhat varying results...

...taken my first flight in far too many years...

...had a proper staredown with a lioness...

...watched the days turn shorter and shorter...

...changed to brand new studded tires that so far have seen snow only on a single morning...

...played and relaxed with family...

...and last, but certainly not least, had more than a few geocaching adventures! I could have shown you so many pictures relating to this sport/adventure/game/mystery solving/treasure hunt, but settled for this one, which is one of my favourite shots from last year.

There will be some posts coming soon. Some cards, and a few knitting projects. If you're curious, there's always my Ravelry page and Instagram to keep you occupied while you wait.

See you soon!

Technical difficulties etc

Hello everybody!

It's been a while. Again. Life gets in the way, more large knitting projects than quick cards, and so on. And I don't feel guilty about it! This blogging thing is fun - as long as there's no pressure. And since I have no advertisers to pressure me, I blog when I want. :) :) No regrets. :)

That being said, I've wanted to post some stuff lately but not been able to. There seems to be a bug in the image uploading that I haven't found a fix for yet. And what is a craft blog post without images??

Today you'll have to settle for this Instagram picture I managed to sneak in via an emergency solution (not one I will bother using in the long run). It's some absolutely gorgeous Manos del Uruguay yarn, a lovely Silk Blend skein I wound up. The biggest skeins I've ever wound. :) 13 cm in diameter, 10 cm high. Massive. You can always look me up on Ravelry, there are many WIPs there that will be finished in the near future.

I hope to figure out the image uploading thing soon and will be back with something to show you!

ETA: This might be related to the Java issue that has been in the news lately. I keep thinking about switching to Firefox or something like that, without getting around to actually doing it. Maybe this is the kick in the backside I need to get it done?

All the best until then,
Eva

3/52: Forever changed

Our little nation is slowly winding down,
returning to everyday life.
Forever changed.
-
I have just made a new blog specifically for my photography projects! Hop on over to madebyeva.wordpress.com and have a look! This project 52 will continue over there, and some other themed photo projects that won't be featured on this blog. I'll keep my paper, yarn and fabric related stuff right here, at least for now.
The Wordpress templates are much more suitable for this, as the photos are larger and clearer over there - without that pesky middle step of uploading through Flickr! Also, Blogger has a few stability problems I'm getting somewhat tired of dealing with...
I'd be thrilled if you'd follow my new blog or add it to your blog roll. See you there!

2/52: What a wonderful world

In the midst of all the madness and sorrow,
there happened the amazing miracle of life.
From deep grief to innocent bliss:
this has truly been a week of extremes.

OSLO

I have no words, no words to convey the shock and sorrow of yesterday's events.
My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by the terror.
-
"People are often unreasonable, irrational and self-centered.
Forgive them anyway.
If you are honest and sincere, people may decieve you.
Be honest and sincere anyway.
What you spend years creating, others may destroy overnight.
Create anyway.
What good you do today, may often be forgotten.
DO GOOD ANYWAY."

1/52: Ignorance is bliss

The bubbles tickle, the steam rises and the rain falls gently,
and this is quite possibly the very best place in the world
to forget that summer vacation is almost over.
-
Hey there, I'm back at it. Yep, here I go with another Project 52! The first one is completed and I like the idea of this thing continuing. I'll try to be a little more dilligent this year - it still takes some effort to keep shooting regularly and a Project 52 is a great help to do just that. Still working on the details, so for now, it's just going to be one shot from the previous week, no particular subject so far. We'll see what the year brings.
Oh, and for those of you wondering where all the cards went, they will hopefully make a grand comeback this fall when time and weather permits... :)

52/52: Fifty-two at thirty

Celebrations all around!
-
So, my project comes to an end. 52 weeks, a year in pictures. Are they representative of my life? Well, yes and no. So much takes place that never makes it onto film (or rather, pixels). Quite a few weeks I was lazy and rarely picked up my camera. Sometimes I had so many pictures it was a pain to only choose one. I have found myself just sitting and looking at the set of pictures, at least the parts of the project where I was dilligent in my photography and had lots of good ones. Although I've spent a couple of Sunday evenings scrambling to get a shot off in time, I'm really glad I did this! It's been a kick in the behind to get the camera out more often. ;)
-
And I guess the big question now is: do I do this for another year? Perhaps I should change the project parameters? Not blog them all, put them on a separate blog, choose a new topic, post several pictures if I have them and none when there are no good ones? I have many thoughts and few conclusions yet. We'll see. I think it's highly likely that I'll continue with another Project 52, but I'll probably mix up the details a bit from this year's project.

51/52: Strawberry Fields Forever

Summer joy in a bowl: wild strawberries and forest blueberries.
My hands, stained a dark purple, bring back memories of summers long ago.

50/52: AFK

Away From Keyboard.
And away from home. And work, and stress.
And camera.

47/52: Boo! BZZZ!

An unwelcome delay brought an unexpected surprise!
I walked around looking at all the umbrella animals
(loving this moquito caught in a spider's web)
with a smile on my face
wishing my camera was the good one
and my delay a little longer.

46/52: A change of heart

I never thought it could be anything other than a chore,
but sometimes lately, I've found myself actually wanting this.

The bad experience on the way home

43/52: In bloom

I pretend they are cherry trees.
But whatever they are,
they are truly
beautiful.

42/52: A jewel in the rough

After ten minutes of scorching asphalt,
choking dust and loud traffic,
I find this place.
Green, quiet, sunny.
A hidden emerald jewel!

41/52: Wildlife

I watched Jurassic Park the night before
and had the soundtrack running in my mind the whole time.

40/52: Up, up and away

Fly me to the moon...
Or maybe somewhere I can learn how to
avoid getting in over my head?

39/52: Drought

All work and no play
makes for a quiet blog
and a boring week of pictures.
